Charlotte M. Ekkens of Hale, formerly of Grand Rapids, passed away Feb. 17, 2014 at 92 years of age.

She is survived by her children, Carol (Michael) Siporin of West Bloomfield, Terry Ekkens of Hale, Bonnie (Johnny) Guy of Fishersville, Va., Todd (Carolyn) Ekkens of Richland and Lynn (Eldon) Barclay of Hale. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren, Lexi Bley, David Ekkens, Courtney Ekkens, Candice Guy, Kala Herman, Jordan Barclay, Linden Barclay, Curtis Barclay, Eldon J. Barclay, Emily Ekkens and Kelsey Ekkens; along with four great-grandchildren, Anella, Jonah, Leo Barclay and James Bley. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; siblings, Wendell, Wesley, Robert, Thressa, Lavilia, Mildred, Delbert and June; along with her parents, Wenzel and Minnie Goetzel.
Mrs. Ekkens was a member of Hale 1st United Methodist Church and the Hale Senior Center. She enjoyed being with her family, gardening and crafts. Charlotte always had the ability to make others smile.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 20 at Hale 1st United Methodist Church, 201 Main St. in Hale. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Hale Chapel of Buresh Funeral Home, 121 S. Washington and Thursday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will be in Esmond-Evergreen Cemetery, Rev. David J. Goudie officiating. Memorial contributions are suggested to Heartland Hospice or the Hale Senior Center.
