Duane J. Caverly of Hale passed away Sunday, Dec. 8 at 71 years of age.
He was born July 11, 1942 in Wyandotte. He married his wife, Linda J. Robinson, on Feb. 10, 1962.
Duane worked for Hale Area schools for 31 years. He was very active in Plainfield Township, where he spent 37 years with the fire department of which 28 years he was its fire chief.
In addition to the Fire Department, he was very active and participated in many community boards, including serving as a trustee along with the parks and recreation committee and the zoning board for 12 years. He was also involved in the Iosco County Parks and Recreation committee and the Iosco County Airport Board.
Mr. Caverly is survived by his wife of 51 years, Linda; his children, Larry (Connie) Caverly of Hale, Lori (Rick Jameyfield) Gulish of Hale, Wayne "Tuff" (Denise) Caverly of Rose City and Loren (Grace) Caverly of Whittemore; his grandchildren, Tarra and Evan Caverly, Travis (Lizz) Gulish, Shelbi (Kris Carnes) Gulish, Brenna (Reed McLean) Caverly, Cassidy, Sierra and Reilly Eden, Lane, Landen and Laken Caverly; great grandchildren, Benjamin, Rayen and Mary Carnes and Natalee Gulish; sister, Linda Short of South Branch; and sisters-in-law, Barbara Caverly of Hale and Pauline Caverly of Omer. He is also survived by his special uncle, Jack (Patty). He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe E. and Bertha Caverly; and brothers, Frederick, Barton and Alex Caverly; along with one grandson, Bryan Brandow.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 11 at the Hale Chapel of Buresh Funeral Home, 121 S. Washington. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2 to 8 p.m. Interment will be in Reno Township Cemetery, Rev. Dean Muhle officiating.
