James D. Petty, age 86, of Oscoda died on Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013 at Saginaw St. Mary's Medical Center.

He was born in St. Franceville, Ill. on Dec. 29, 1926 to the late Everette and Louvary Petty. James was a veteran of World War II having served in the United States Navy prior to his full career in the United States Air Force. He later worked for 17 years in civil service at Wurtsmith Air Force Base.
James was a member of NARF and also served on the Air Force Crash Boats on the AuSable River in the 1950s. James had a great love of cars, puzzles, trains and especially his dog, Bandit.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Eunice, whom he married on July 2, 1951 in Bowling Green, Ohio. James is also survived by two daughters, Linda (Ken) Plaskewicz of Oscoda and Louann (John) Bero of Greenbush; grandchildren, Christopher (Carrita) Plaskewicz of Hudsonville, and Tammy (Jarod) Sellers of Grand Rapids; great grandchildren, Alaina, Noah and Jacob; five sisters, Norma Suddath, Florence Witsman, Thelma Barclay, Viola Young and Lola Logan; and brother-in-law, Raymond (Betty) White. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, Feb. 25 at 1 p.m. at Buresh Funeral Home in Oscoda with Rev. Rob Nordin officiating with full military honors to follow. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and again Monday from 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral. Condolences may be offered at www.bureshfuenralhomes.com.
