Laura Lucille Redfield (nee Skiver), age 58, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, niece and friend went to be with our lord on Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2013. Laura passed surrounded by her loving husband and family at her home in East Tawas.
Laura was born April 22, 1955 in Alpena and has lived in the Tawas area for the past 41 years. Laura graduated from Tawas Area High School in 1973 and attended Alpena Community College. She loved hunting, fishing and camping and raising her two sons, Norman and Shane, with her husband, Norman, whom she married on June 6, 1975.
She had many interests and talents. She was a proficient archer and pianist, loved doting on her grandchildren, wearing beautiful jewelry, her collections of angels and bears, crocheting, knitting, gardening, raising tropical and koi fish, scrap booking, dancing, raising chickens, riding motorcycles with her husband as members of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association, painting crafts, and most recently designing and making jewelry for friends, family and to raise money for the .
Laura worked at Tawas St. Joseph Hospital for 24 years; she was the director of environmental services when she left in 2011. Laura was full of life and adored by many; she was "adopted" as a mom, grandmother and sister and considered a friend by numerous people. She will be dearly missed by all of her family, her close friend Cathy Dewald, her "boys" Jake and Cody and all who had the incredible good fortune to experience her feisty attitude, her welcoming arms, her listening ear and her heart of gold.
Laura is survived by her husband of 38 years, Norman Henry; sons, Norman Lee (Chrystal) of Tawas City and Shane William (Tina) of National City; her grandchildren, Madison, Mackense, Laura, Lindsy, Kami, Zacorey, Brooke, Dylan, Krista, Cody, Kyler, Kali, Keaton, Ashton and Amiha; and great granddaughter, Ella; as well as her mother, Helen Skiver of East Tawas; her brothers, Harold (Charlene) Skiver, Keith Skiver and Raymond Skiver; sisters, Elizabeth Borowski, Catherine Koehn and Theresa (Eric) Martin; in-laws Gregory Redfield, Michelle Redfield and Gerry (David) Ervine; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by and dearly missed her father, Harold W. Skiver; her mother-in-law Betty A. McGath; father-in-law, Gordon L. Redfield; her nephew, Jason A. Skiver; and her great niece, Hannah Elizabeth Sleeseman.
Visitation will be held at Buresh Funeral Home, Tawas City, on Friday, Nov. 1 from 2 to 8 p.m. A service, officiated by Pastor Doug Kennedy, will be held at Buresh Funeral Home, Tawas City, on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 11 a.m. The family suggests contributions to the in her memory.
