Leighton Elwood Kohn, age 79, of Flint died Monday, June 10, 2013, at his home, surrounded by his family.
The funeral service was held Friday, June 14, at the Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services in Mt. Morris. Burial followed in Flint Memorial Park. Those desiring may consider memorial contributions to Genesys Hurley Cancer Institute or to the family to be donated to Little League baseball programs.
Leighton was born April 8, 1934, in Sherman Township, the son of George and Ida (nee Cox) Kohn. Leighton graduated from Tawas High School with the Class of 1952. He and Donna Jean Kohn were united in marriage June 14, 1952, in Bay City. After working with the Gypsum Company for 13 years, he worked at Buick for 33 years before retiring in 1997. Leighton enjoyed playing baseball and softball up until 2011, also snowmobiling, hunting, camping, spending time with family and friends, enjoying family time at their cabin up north.
Left to cherish his memory are four children, Gale Prieur with John Georgette, Wilma and husband, Bob Simms, Leighton Kohn with Aleshia DeCoe, and Mike and wife JoAnne Kohn; six grandchildren, Jennifer and husband Eldon Faulkner, Gregory and wife Kelly Prieur, Adam and wife Andrea Prieur, Stacie and husband Steve Mata, Michael Jr. and wife Samantha Kohn, Kaylyn Kohn with Charles Leach, and Taylor Evans; 10 great-grandchildren, Zoe, Conner, Preston, Brayden, Maliah, Ella, Landon, Colton, Michael III and Bentlee; brother, Herb and wife Regina Kohn; and extended family, Teresa Barkman and Jeni Bolan.
Leighton was preceded in death by his parents; wife Donna Jean Kohn; son-in-law Greg Prieur; granddaughter Leslie Simms; three brothers, George, Howard and Allen; and four sisters, Helen, Minnie, Alma and Arlene.
