Michael Dwyne Horning, age 65, of National City passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2013 at St. Mary's of Michigan Saginaw Hospital.

Michael was born in Pigeon to Harold Horning and Wilma Horning (nee Baskin). Michael graduated from Tawas Area High School in 1966. He was drafted into the Vietnam War in 1968, serving until his honorable discharge in 1970.
Upon returning to Michigan, Mike attended and graduated from Michigan State College with a degree in forestry. Mike spent a lengthy time in California, where he fought wildfires in 1973. He worked as a supervisor for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, but continued his education, graduating in 1983 from the U.S. Marshals Training Academy in 1983, where he attained special training and recognition in diversion investigation and technical investigative equipment training.
Mike continued his career with the U.S. Marshall Drug Enforcement Administration, living in various states, including Ohio, Indiana, Louisiana, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Georgia. He retired on Oct. 10, 1997, which is when he moved back to his home state of Michigan.
Michael was also involved with the Masonic Lodge, American Legion, Moose Lodge, St. James Catholic Church of Whittemore, and the Iosco County Veterans Memorial committee. He also enjoyed spending time with family and friends, hunting, camping and helping others in need.
Michael is survived by his best friend and wife, Pauline Jordan; step-daughter, Samantha Archambeau; brothers, Richard Horning of Bay City and David Horning of Sandusky; mother-in-law, Dorothy Jordan of National City; and many brothers- and sisters-in-law; nieces; nephews; and many, many friends from around the country.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Wilma Horning.
Per Michael's wishes, cremation will take place with a memorial service scheduled for 11 a.m., Friday, May 10 at St. James Catholic Church in Whittemore.
