Roger Bruce, age 84, of Imlay City passed away Thursday, May 16, 2013 at home surrounded by his loving family.
Roger Lyle Bruce was born on March 24, 1929 in Mikado, the son of Duncan and Gladys Bruce. Roger grew up in Zilwaukee and has lived in the Imlay City community since 1970. He is a graduate of Oscoda High School.
Roger served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War.
He married Mary Katherine Dumont on June 17, 1950 in Mikado.
Roger was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Imlay City. He retired from General Motors after 25 years as a tool crib manager.
He raised Arabian horses post-retirement and had a national grand champion that beat out the horses of King Hussein and Patrick Swayze in halter competitions.
Roger is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Bruce, of Imlay City; his children, Roger J. Bruce of Imlay City, James M. (Donna Marie Swoish) Bruce of Imlay City, Michelle Elizabeth Bruce of Imlay City, William Stephen Bruce of Grand Blanc, Jan Paulette (Doug) Thompson of Imlay City and John Paul (Gayle) Bruce of Keaau, Hawaii; and daughter-in-law Mindy (Elling) Bruce of Imlay City.
Also surviving are: grandchildren Joseph Bruce, Benjamin Bruce, Rueben Bruce, Angela Manick, David Manick, Dawn S. Bruce, Darlene C. Carey, David W. Bruce, Joshua G. Villa, Jonah C. Villa, Lisa K. Haile, Jessica L. Conn, Megan M. Bruce, Malia G. Bruce, John R. Bruce, Christopher A. Bruce II, Amy M. Touchette and Rebecca L. Bruce; and great-grandchildren Dorna, Jason, Sophia, Lee Jr., Sam, Grace, Tabbithia, Lucas, Zella, Kaeo, Aliyah, Alyssa, EliAna and Keenan.
Roger was preceded in death by a son, Christopher Amil Bruce.
A funeral mass was held Tuesday, May 21, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Imlay City, officiated by Fr. Paul Ward.
