Rua Arlene Fairfield of Tawas City passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 16, 2013 at Lakeview Manor Healthcare Center, age 99 years.
Rua was born on Dec. 13, 1913 in Escanaba to Edward and Alice (Montague) Doak. She worked for several years in Livonia at a nursing home as a cook. Rua enjoyed working with her hands doing crafts like knitting and sewing. She also truly enjoyed cooking.
Rua was a faithful member of East Tawas Assembly of God Church in East Tawas.
She is survived by her son, Gary L. Fairfield of Tawas City; two grandchildren, Lori (Paul) Holdman of Livonia and David Fairfield of Romulus; four great grandchildren, Andrew Gron, Joshua Holdman, and Alex and Haley Fairfield; and many dear friends. Rua was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil; three brothers, C.J., Eddie and Gene; and three sisters, Lois, Fern and Marjorie June.
Per her wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Friday, June 21 at 12:30 p.m. at Buresh Funeral Home in Tawas City with Reverend James Westheim officiating. An on-line guest registry is available at
