Dennis Earl Hurst, 67, of Gause, Texas, died on Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2010, at his residence.
Dennis was born in Bradford, Pa., on July 14, 1943, to the late James and Freda Hurst.
He retired as an E-6 from the U.S. Air Force while stationed at Wurtsmith AFB after 21½ years and was a veteran of the Vietnam War.
Dennis then retired from the city of Hearne after 21 years.
Ever since he was a teenager, Dennis was involved with country music, writing, producing and recording his own country songs.
He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post 3735 of Oscoda.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Norma Hurst of Gause; son, Dennis J. Hurst and wife of Michigan; son, Thomas C. Hurst and wife of Georgia; brother, Robert Hurst and wife of New Hampshire; sister, Norma Wooster of Pennsylvania; sister, Naomi Miller of Florida; daughter, Kelly Langford of Texas; son, Robert Gingrich and wife of Arizona; daughter, Cheryl Wells and husband of Louisiana; daughter, Rhonda Avery and husband of Michigan; also by four granddaughters, eight grandsons and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Bill Hurst.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, Sept. 2, 1 p.m., at the Memorial Funeral Home in Hearne, Texas, with Pastor Jimmy Sanders officiating the service. Dennis will be laid to rest in the Gause Cemetery.
