Shirley A. Scharich of Oscoda passed away from cancer on Monday, Oct. 8, 2012, age 79.

Shirley was born in 1933 in Saginaw, daughter of the late Chauncey and Elsie Hagon. She graduated from Arthur Hill High School in Saginaw in 1951 and later attended Bay City Junior College. Shirley worked for the Saginaw Township offices, moved to Oscoda in 1967 and worked for several years as a dispatcher for the Oscoda/AuSable Police Department.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Donald Scharich; brother, Larry; and sister, Beulah. Shirley leaves two daughters, Linda and Karen (Thom); a step daughter, Lori; and a step son, Lee (Kathryn). She is also survived by four grandchildren, Carrie, Stacie, Kaitlin (Matt) and Kelsey; and two step grandchildren, Andrew and Brandon. Shirley leaves three great grandchildren, Tyler (Nana's joy), Gracie and Allison. Also surviving are a brother-in-law, Gary (Sharon) Scharich; and a sister-in-law, Judy (Jim) Richter of Saginaw; along with several nieces, nephews and many dear friends.
Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, Oct. 12 at 11 a.m. at Oscoda United Methodist Church with Pastor Bri Desotell officiating. Her family will welcome friends at the church for visitation from 9 to 11 a.m. A burial will take place at Chapel Hill Memorial Cemetery in Freeland.
