Nancy Ellen Summers, age 69, of Oscoda died at her home on Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012.
Nan was born on Sept. 17, 1943 in Detroit. She was the owner of Nan's Place in Oscoda which was a military uniform alterations business that also embroidered school jackets. Nan was formerly from Detroit where her father and husband were with the Detroit Fire Department.
She spent all her summers with her grandparents on Van Etten Lake, who were from Detroit and her grandfather was with the Detroit Police Department. Nan was made Wurtsmith Air Force Base MMS Squadron "Honor Mom" as she kept the team looking sharp in their uniforms as they competed around the country winning many competitions.
While still in Detroit, Nan made many of the outfits for the Detroit Fire Department Clown team who sponsored the burn unit at Children's Hospital.
She is survived by her husband, Wm. "Bruce" Summers of Oscoda; daughter, Amy Lynn Klus of Tawas; grandsons, William and Nicholas Klus of Tawas; and sisters, Sandra Ramsey of Howell and Susan Hall of Walled Lake. Nan was preceded in death by her parents, Gerald and Mildred Risk; grandparents, William and Mildred Dwight; and her mother-in-law, Camilla Summers.
