Lawrence J. Bocek, age 87, of Tawas City, formerly of Owosso, passed away Monday, March 18, 2013 at Tendercare Tawas City.
A Mass of Christian burial was held Friday, March 22 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Owosso with Fr. Phillip Schweda officiating. Burial will be at St. Paul Cemetery, also in Owosso.
Lawrence was born September 22, 1925 in Bannister, the son of Stanley and Mary (nee Marsik) Bocek.
He married Irene C. Vyskocil on October 23, 1965 in Owosso; she predeceased him in 2004.
Lawrence was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, ZCBJ, W.F.L.A. and the Knights of Columbus. Lawrence enjoyed being outside and working in the yard and time spent at Higgins Lake with family and friends.
He retired from General Motors after 41 years of service where he worked side by side with his brother, Laudie.
Lawrence is survived by two stepsons, Frank Vyskocil and Edward (Carla) Vyskocil; stepdaughter Catherine (Joe) Vyskocil-Maxwell; sisters Alice (Johnny) Riha and Carol (Frank) Bocek; seven grandchildren and great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and other loving family.
He is predeceased by his wife Irene; brother and sister-in-law Laudie (Ceilie) Bocek; and daughter-in-law Sue Vyskocil.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Oscoda Opportunity Education Foundation Scholarship Fund or Hospice House of Shiawassee County.
