George Litchfield Obituary

George Author LitchfieldLCDR George Author Litchfield, USN (Ret), 93 1/2, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2013 at River Oaks in Beaufort, SC. He was born in Quincy, MA August 10, 1919 to George M. Litchfield and Helen Gordon Litchfield. He attended schools in Miami, Florida and graduated from the University of Miami in 1941 with a degree in Business Administration. He was a member of the university boxing team and Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. He entered the US Navy in June of 1942 and retired in April 1973. After retiring he worked with the Dowling law firm for 15 years as a legal investigator. Cmdr Litchfield served on ships and bases in the Atlantic, European, and Pacific theaters of operation. He served three tours of duty with the fleet Marine Forces during his 32 years of service. He served as hospital administrator in several duty stations. He was a member of the Port Royal Baptist Church, where he served as a trustee. He was a pilot and was a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. He served as a deputy law enforcement officer for 18 years with the SC Department of Natural Resources and as a State Constable for 10 years. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Geneva, of 65 years. He is survived by his three children, Dr. Brenda Litchfield (Dr. Jack Dempsey) of Mobile, AL, Dennis Litchfield (Dale) of Crawfordville, FL and Marie Litchfield (Johnny Pollitzer) of Beaufort. Burial will be in the Beaufort National Cemetery with full military honors. There will be graveside services on Tuesday, January 15th at 12:00 noon. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Geneva Litchfield Young Artist Fund, Beaufort Artist Association, POB 625, Beaufort, SC 29901-0625. Anderson Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the family.
