Matras, Chris - Lexington  
Chris Matras, of Lexington, a Computer Systems Administrator died unexpectedly of a heart attack on July 20, 2015 at the age of 50 while in Miami for business. Chris is survived by his loving wife, Judy Matras, his mother, JoAnn Matras. He is predeceased by his father, Lawrence Matras and his brother, Kevin. Chris was born in Beaufort, South Carolina on October 18, 1964 to Lawrence and JoAnn Matras. He graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1985 with a degree in Computer Science. During his career he worked at NCR, U.S. Bankruptcy Court, Flextronics and most recently as Computer System Administrator at the Federal Public Defender, District of South Carolina. On July 25, 1987, he married Judy, the IT manager at the U.S. District Court for the District of South Carolina. They met while attending USC and became best friends before deciding to marry. Chris and Judy shared their home and their love with their many cats and dogs through the years. Chris loved to fly. He was an Instrument Rated private pilot that was very active in the Commercial Pilots Forum. He was proud to have flown into many of the largest airports on the east coast and loved taking friends up for flights in his Mooney. He enjoyed travel, golf, and games with his friends. His goal was to visit all seven continents and he made it to four. He will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and all who knew him. A visitation will be held from 1-2pm with a funeral service to follow at 2:30pm on Friday July 31, 2015, at St. Andrews Lutheran Church, 1416 Broad River Road, Columbia SC 29210 with Pastor John Trump officiating. Last rites will be held at 4pm at Woodridge Memorial Park at 138 Corley Mill Road, Lexington SC 29072. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Andrews Lutheran Church - Pastor's Discretionary Fund to be later donated to a charitable cause meaningful to Chris. Stephen M. Morris Stephen M. Morris, 77, of Bluffton, SC and formerly of Reston, VA, died August 25, 2015 surrounded by family at Hospice of Charleston in Mt. Pleasant, SC. Mr. Morris was born February 3, 1938, in New York, New York, the son of the late Lester Jay and Gladys Newman Morris. After completing high school, Mr. Morris attended Alfred University, graduating with a degree in ceramic engineering. He served in the Army National Guard and, after completing his service, was employed by IBM in New York and, later Manassas, VA. Projects of note include development of the tiles later used to protect space craft from burning up upon re-entry into the earth's atmosphere. In the early 1970's his interest in finance led him to the fledgling Financial Planning field where he became one of the first Certified Financial Planners to graduate from the College for Financial Planning in Denver, Co. Later he was a curriculum advisor and wrote a weekly column for the Reston Times and hosted a cable TV show on money management. Steve was a frequent speaker on financial planning topics nationally at CFP meetings and in Washington, DC for the American Association of Individual Investors. Later roles include, 401-k implementation and management for the National Automobile Dealers Association, benefit plan management at Freddie Mac, MacLean, VA and the US Chamber of Commerce in Washington, DC. In retirement Steve continued a small consulting practice and moved to Bluffton, SC. He studied and earned certification from the Gemological Institute. But, of all his accomplishments, none made him prouder then his writing. Under the pen name of "Uncle Steve" he published three books containing collections: Catwhiskers, Winnies Story and Poems. Steve is survived by his wife of 23 years, Sherry, children Andrew and Jonathan, Step-children Katie and Andrew, Sister Elizabeth (Beth) and nine grandchildren. Services will be held at Sauls Funeral Home, 90 Simmonsville Road, Bluffton, SC 29910 on Thursday, August 27, at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations should be directed to Curtis Yarlott, Executive Director, St. Labre Indian School, Ashland, MT 59004-1001, as a memorial donation from Stephen M. Morris.
