Elmes, Betty Ann - North Haverhill
Betty Ann Elmes passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 1st, 2015 at the Grafton County Nursing home in North Haverhill, NH, at the age of 92. She was born in Upper Darby, PA and was the daughter of Harry and Lucella (Drake) Boyer. She grew up in Drexel Hill, PA and married Badgley A. Elmes in 1945. After the war, they settled in Lancaster, PA and then lived in various homes in the Detroit, MI and Buffalo, NY areas. After retirement in early 1980s, they moved among homes in Savannah, GA and Hilton Head, SC and Waitsfield and Shelburne, Vermont. They settled eventually near Chambersburg, PA where in 2009 Badge passed away after 64 years of marriage. A year later Betty moved to northern New Hampshire and spent the rest of her life in assisted living and nursing home care.   Throughout her life Betty was an active and committed volunteer in organizations ranging from her beloved PEO to various hospital, school, and museum volunteer groups in the communities where she lived. She was an amazing craftsperson and artist who knit hundreds of sweaters for family, friends, charitable causes, and of course, herself. She was a wonderful cook as well who loved to entertain the close circle of friends that she and Badge made throughout their lives. She was also very athletic, loved to play and watch golf (not to mention football and baseball), and could do a perfect cartwheel well into her 60s. As a mom, grandmother, and great-grandmother she was loving and caring and worried often about our happiness and welfare. She loved to travel, and in retirement was able to embark with Badge on a variety of world adventures. In her later years she drew upon her photo albums and diaries to reminisce about those trips with others. She led a rich and full life, loved her family immensely, and passed away knowing that she was loved. She is survived by her children and their spouses (Pat and Dave, Rob and Martha, and Mike and Anne), her grandchildren (Anna, Conor, Katie, and Sarah), and her great-grandchildren (Elias, Burke, and Mikayla) will miss her greatly. May she rest peacefully with Badge knowing that her family is doing well and that each of us is grateful for what she gave us during her long and fruitful life. Because Betty was a great animal lover, the family suggests a donation in her honor to your local animal rescue center or to a charity closest to your heart. Upon request there will be no public service. Pearsons Funeral Home located at 70 Church Street in Lyndonville, VT is in care of the arrangements.
