Baker, William J.  
William J. Baker CAPT. USNR (Ret.) William J. Baker, 71, of Hilton Head Island died Monday, January 12, 2015 at his home. He had been a resident of the island since 1996 and lived in Long Cove Club. Bill was born in Chicago, Illinois on October 22, 1943 and was the son of the late John and Marian Baker. He attended The University of Notre Dame where he had a Navy ROTC scholarship. He graduated with a degree in Economics and worked as a Financial Planner in Chicago, Milwaukee and Hilton Head, and was a member of the Chicago Board of Options Exchange. After retiring Bill remained active serving as President of the Navy League of the United States, Hilton Head Island Council; President of the Military Coalition of Hilton Head; and was the twice Past President of the Notre Dame Alumni Club of Hilton Head. Bill was also an avid fundraiser and worked extensively to create the Hilton Head Veterans Memorial. In his spare time he enjoyed golfing at Long Cove Club, was a member of the Dirty Dozen golf group, and travelled extensively domestically and internationally with his wife Sheila. He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 37 years, Sheila Baker, brother Robert (Edie) Baker of Plainfield, IL, sister-in-law Sharon (Harry) Worth, Broomfield, CO, cousin Kathleen Adamson, Prunedale, CA, cousin Denise Haala, Prospect Heights, IL, Greg Adamson, Phoenix, AZ, niece Kim (Mark) Steinmetz, Scottsdale, AZ and two great nieces Mia and Ali Steinmetz. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Francis by the Sea Catholic Church, Monday, January 19, 2015 at 10:30am. Berriel Sr., Daniel Raymond - Beaufort  
Daniel Raymond Berriel, Sr. Daniel Raymond Berriel, Sr. of Beaufort, SC passed away at his residence. Mr. Berriel was born in Tampa, FL on August 11, 1931. Surviving are one son, Daniel R. Berriel, Jr., two daughters, Norma Ellen Berriel and Sherry Lance, one brother, Victor Ruiz and one sister, Corina Chatlos. Grandchildren; Christa Piendel, Erica Piendel, David Lance, Daniel Lance, Brandi Berriel, Jamie Berriel and Daniel Berriel. He had numerous great grandchildren. Anderson Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the family.

Brewster, Vera Duncan - Dataw Island  
Vera Duncan BrewsterVera Duncan Brewster, wife of Elwood C. Brewster, of Dataw Island, SC died Monday, December 22, 2014 at her residence. Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at 11 AM at Carteret Street United Methodist Church. Mrs. Brewster was born in Hillsville, VA to the late Jessie Duncan and Beulah Nester Duncan. She was predeceased by sisters Alma Fillion of Dansville, VA and Gloria Dean Barnhill of Shelby, NC. She was a member of Carteret Street United Methodist Church. Surviving in addition to her husband, Elwood, are two sons, David Brewster of Johns Island, SC and Keith Brewster of Rockledge, FL and one sister, Geneva Witt of Dublin, VA. Vera's passion was golf, gardening and participating in many charities. Burial service will be held at Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin, VA, Friday, January 2, 2015 at 11AM. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to Carteret Street United Methodist Church, West St. Fund, 408 Carteret Street, Beaufort, SC 29902. Anderson Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the family.

Bruno, Vito  
Vito ("Will/Willie") BrunoJune 17, 1935 - January 9, 2015 Will Bruno of Bluffton, SC passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family on January 9th, 2015 following a brief illness. He was born in Brooklyn, NY on June 17, 1935 and was the son of the late John and Grace (Colavita) Bruno. Will and his family moved to Connecticut in his early years and he lived, married and raised his family in Stamford, CT until his retirement. Will attended the University of Connecticut and was the production manager for The New Yorker Magazine, headquartered in New York City, until retiring to Hilton Head Island, SC in 1985. Upon moving to Hilton Head, he and his wife, Jo owned and operated a wine and liquor store, Ye Port Royal Wine & Spirits, in Port Royal Shopping Center for many years. Will's joy in life was being with his family, working in the outdoors, and listening to good music, as well as being the most welcoming host to family and friends over many years. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years Josephine "Jo" Margotta Bruno, three sons Greg Bruno of Waleska, GA, Gary and daughter-in-law Mary Ann Bruno of Bluffton, SC, John Bruno of Hilton Head Island, SC and former daughter in law Kathy of Hilton Head Island, SC. He is also survived by his sister, Lucille and brother-in-law Beeb Cipolla of Boynton Beach, FL, sister-in-law, Diane and brother-in-law Ron Ford, of Boca Raton, FL and sister-in-law, Barbara Margotta, of Bluffton, SC. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren - Steven, Jenna, Lindsey, Nicole, JT & Nick, and his most recent love great granddaughter Faith, as well as many nieces and nephews. A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday January 17, 2015 at 12 o'clock at Saint Andrews Chapel Hall, 220 Pinckney Colony Rd, Okatie, SC 29909. Following the memorial service there will be a gathering in remembrance of his well lived life at 2 Hidden Lake Ct, in Rose Hill Plantation. The family has asked that if anyone who wishes to remember Will that, in lieu of flowers, a memorial donation in the name of Will Bruno sent to Hospice of the Low Country, 7 Plantation Park Drive, Bluffton, SC 29910 would be most kind and appreciated.

Buckner, Betty Carter - Hardeeville  
Betty Carter Buckner Betty Carter Buckner, 82 of Hardeeville, SC and widow of John Ramsey Buckner Jr. passed away at her home on Saturday, January 3, 2015. She was born in Miley, South Carolina on April 11, 1932. She is the daughter of the late Harry H. Carter and Virginia Godley Carter. She was retired from First Union Bank in Hardeeville. She was a member of the Hardeeville Baptist Church and a member of Edgar Mole Chapter OES in Hardeeville. She was an avid gamecock fan and followed the team all the way to Hawaii for the bowl game as well as locally. She traveled to Europe with her husband, John who was a P. O.W. during World War II to visit sites where he was held as a prisoner. She was a devoted Elvis fan. She is survived by her daughter Ann Buckner Day of Hardeeville, SC; her grandchild, Heather Scott Boggess (Fred) of Beaufort and great grandchildren, Courtney Bullard, Johnathan Bullard and Bobby Redding. She was predeceased by her brother, Harry H. Carter Jr. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at Sauls Funeral Home, 310 W. Adams St., Ridgeland with burial in Purrysburg Cemetery. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 pm until the hour of the service. The family request memorial donations be made to the Wounded Warriors in memory of Betty Buckner.

Burke, Patricia Elaine Graham - Bluffton  
Patricia "Patty" Elaine Graham BurkePatricia "Patty" Elaine Graham Burke, 62, of Hilton Head passed away on December 29th, 2014 at MUSC hospital in Charleston, SC of surgical complications. Patty was born in Atlanta, GA to Evelyn and Charles Graham. She is survived by her loving husband of 31 years Denny and daughter Lyndsey Ham-Hayes and her husband of Atlanta, GA. She is also survived by her mother Evelyn Graham of Sun City Hilton Head, brother Bobby Graham of Atlanta, GA, three step-daughters Tracy Burke of Milwaukee, WI, Bridget Burke of Athens, GA and Meghan Burke Moore of Athens, GA as well as extended family. Patty and Denny lived in Atlanta, GA for many years where Patty was in finance for Reynolds Aluminum and Best Foods before retiring in Hilton Head, SC in 1997. Patty loved people and found joy in creative card making, decorative painting, tennis and biking. Being a three time cancer survivor she twice chaired the Relay for Life cancer walk in Hilton Head and had been group leader of many of the functions of the American Cancer Relay for Life. There will be a memorial service, "Celebration of Patty" taking place at Central Church on Monday, January 5th at 1pm at 975 William Hilton Parkway, Hilton Head Island, SC 29928 and also in Atlanta on Wednesday, January 7th at 4pm at North Point Community Church, 4350 North Point Parkway, Alpharetta, GA 30022. Byer, Gay  
Gay (Ehrich) ByerBluffton, SC: Gay passed away after a short illness on January 6, 2015, age 82. She was predeceased by her parents Lud and Lela Ehrich of Rochester, NY and brother Guy Ehrich of Placentia, CA. She is survived by her devoted husband of nearly 60 years Robert J, Byer of Bluffton, two daughters Holly (Keith) Mills of Palm Bay, FL and Heather L. (Christopher Newman, M.D.) Newman, M.D. of Allentown, PA; four grandchildren Miles, Lucy, Lily and Molly Newman; a sister Nancy (James) Martin and a brother Dane (Michelle) Ehrich; three sisters-in-law Carol Ehrich, Carol Castiglione of Bluffton and Judy Anderson; as well as 11 nieces and nephews; numerous grand-nieces and nephews; and a host of wonderful friends and neighbors in Bluffton. Gay was born in Buffalo, NY and lived subsequently in Rochester, NY, Washington DC, Vero Beach, FL and in Bluffton's Rosehill Plantation since 1998. She taught elementary school in Rochester and for many years taught pre-school in Washington, DC where she was beloved by students and parents alike. However, the main focus of her life was her family to whom she was a devoted and loyal figure beyond description. A memorial service for Gay is being planned for the spring.
