Duttenhaver, Jean - Savannah
Jean Duttenhaver SAVANNAH- Mrs. Jean Duttenhaver departed this life to be with Christ December 28, 2014. She was born February 27, 1925, in Indianapolis, Indiana, the second child of the late Mr. Ray Austin Stewart and his wife Sophia DeCamp Stewart of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Statesboro, Georgia. She attended Shortridge High School and Indiana University at Bloomington during WWII, where she met and married the late First Lieutenant Carroll Franklin "Frank" Farr, Jr., a finance major at Northwestern University of Chicago, who was moved during the War with other officers to IU where he graduated. Mr. and Mrs. Farr eventually settled in Bulloch County, Georgia, where Mr. Farr owned a successful accounting practice up until his death in 1986. A devoted wife and mother, Mrs. Duttenhaver was blessed with beauty, a fun-loving, positive attitude and a lovely alto voice. She, the late Dr. Jack Averitt and the late Mrs. George (Neva) Bean were often asked to sing at funerals at Oak Grove and other churches in Screven County, Georgia. Her beautiful voice could be heard at home and in many local Statesboro organizations including the Statesboro Music Club, Beta Sigma Phi, the Kiwanis Capers, and church choirs including Oak Grove in Screven County, First Methodist Church and Pittman Park Methodist Church in Statesboro, where she and Mr. Farr were founding members. On occasion, she accompanied the late Mrs. Emma Kelly at engagements at Ft. Stewart, and for a time she was employed at the Music Department of GSU. Mrs. Duttenhaver's second husband was the late Mr. Albert Monroe Braswell, Jr., of Statesboro, Georgia, the founder of A. M. Braswell, Jr., Food Co., Inc. As Corporate Secretary up until the time of Mr. Braswell's death in 2005, she was instrumental in helping Mr. Braswell build the business into the international company it is today. Mrs. Duttenhaver's third husband was the late widower, Mr. Wayne Raymond Duttenhaver, of Atlanta and Savannah, Georgia. The Duttenhaver and Farr families have been interwoven since WWII days when she and Mr. Farr, and Mr. Duttenhaver and his first wife, Mrs. Bettie Bailey Duttenhaver, lived together in married housing at IU. The families remained close, and Dr. John Duttenhaver was the cancer physician for Mr. Braswell before his death. Not long after Mr. Braswell's death, Mr. Duttenhaver's wife Bettie also passed away in Atlanta. The following year, Mr. Duttenhaver moved to Savannah, and both he and Jean attributed "the children" with encouraging the union between them. They were married at Oak Grove Methodist Church in Screven County in December of 2007. Up until his death in June of 2014, they made their home in Savannah, and enjoyed traveling the world together. Mrs. Duttenhaver will be buried with her parents and all her first husband's family in the old churchyard of Oak Grove United Methodist Church on Scarboro Highway (Hwy 17) in Screven County, a church Mr. Farr's great great grandmother, Mrs. Mary Ann Young Henderson Cameron, of the earliest Georgia founding families of Young, Jones and Mills, helped found in 1852 on a piece of property belonging to one of her father's, James Young's, plantations. Mrs. Duttenhaver is also preceded in death by one brother and his wife, the late Mr. and Mrs. Raymie DeCamp Stewart of Indianapolis, one infant daughter, Miss Nancy Lynn Farr, and survived by daughter Cynthia Ann Farr Kinkel (Roeder Phillip Kinkel) of Tybee Island, GA, daughter Carole Jean Farr Reddick Drexel (Gregory Andrew Drexel) of Beaufort, S.C, and son Carroll Franklin "Frank" Farr, III (Cynthia "Cindy" Willy Farr) of Statesboro, GA, four step children, Mrs. Jane Duttenhaver Hursey (Howard) of Loganville, GA, Mrs. Helen Duttenhaver Beutel (Bill) of Colorado Springs, CO, Dr. John Duttenhaver (Stephanie) of Savannah, GA, and the late Mr. Paul Duttenhaver and his widow Mrs. Linda Duttenhaver of Los Angeles, CA, as well as nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
