David Clark The Reverend David Clark 96, of Lobeco and widower of Gladys J. Clark, died Saturday, May 31, 2014 at Veterans Victory House, Walterboro. Wake Services: 6 to 8 PM Thursday, June 5, 2014 at Huspah Baptist Church, Gardens Corner. Funeral Services: 11:00 AM Friday, June 6, 2014 at Huspah Baptist Church. Burial to follow in Beaufort National Cemetery. There will be no viewing after the eulogy. He was born July 23, 1917 to Walter Clark and Clara Adams in Barnwell County, South Carolina. At the tender age of 12, he confessed Christ as his personal savior and was baptized on the 4th Sunday in July 1929, becoming a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, Dunbarton, SC. He left Dunbarton in 1932, and moved to Lobeco, SC where he joined Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, under Christian experience, under the pastoral leadership of the Rev. T.B. Haynes. He worked faithfully at Mt. Calvary from 1932 until 1958, leaving only for a short period of time (1944) to serve his country in the United States Army. He received his calling from the Lord to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ to the world, and accepted that charge. He moved his membership to Huspah Baptist Church to be with his wife, Gladys who had been an official at Huspah since 1937. He was later called to serve as Pastor of Central Baptist Church in Beaufort where he did so for a little over eleven years. Knowing that knowledge is power, and that the Bible said "without a vision the people perish", led him to Morris College, Sumpter, SC, to receive formal ministerial training. During the many trials and battles in his life, Rev. Clark always looked to the Lord for wisdom and guidance. He and his wife Gladys J. Clark, served faithfully together in the vineyard for the Lord until her death in August of 2008. He is survived by his son, Walter (Mamie) Clarke, III; two daughters: Marelena Glaze and Rosetta Gilbert; five grandchildren: Valencia (Ed) Rodgers, Michon (Dave) Trent, Camile, John and Patrick; nine great-grandchildren: Jessica Trent, Nicholas Rodgers, Jill Trent, Kamryn Rodgers, Tashina, Taquioya, Latrice and LaShanae; one brother, Joe Martin, Jr; a special sister-in-law,, Lottie Mae Martin; a host of other relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers it is the wishes of Rev. Clark that contributions be made to Huspah Baptist Church, PO Box 552, Lobeco, SC or Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, 1949 Trask Parkway, Seabrook, SC 29940.
