Herman Gene Baxley Herman Gene Baxley, 70, of Beaufort, a retired US Marine and loving father passed away on Saturday, February 8, 2014 at Beaufort Memorial Hospital. Gene was born in Dillon, SC on August 19, 1943. He was preceded in death by his father Kiahodis Baxley, his mother Frances Jackson and his beloved sister Pat Mullins of Port Royal, SC. He is survived by his two daughters, Sheila K. Baxley and Brenda Baxley-Rupert. His granddaughter Amanda DiBiase, his nephew Scott Mullins, two nieces: Libby Mullins Hawks and Sherry Mullins Young, and his devoted dog of 14 years, Oreo. Known to all of us as "Poppa". He will be truly missed by all. His love will forever live in our hearts. Gene Baxley graduated in 1961 from New Hanover High School, in Wilmington, NC. He then enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he proudly served 20 years and retired as GYSGT. Gene served in the Vietnam War from 1966-1968. After retiring from USMC, Gene worked in automobile sales in Beaufort for 29 years where he most recently retired from O.C Welch of Hardeeville, SC. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm on Wednesday, February 12 at Anderson Funeral Home and Crematory. A graveside service with full military honors will be held at noon on Thursday, February 13 at Beaufort National Cemetery. Anderson Funeral Home and Crematory is assisting the family.
