James E. Freeman, 87, devoted husband and father, died peacefully at home after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. Jim lived in Hilton Head with Annette, his loving wife and constant companion of 62 years, and was a member of the North Island Baptist Church. In addition to Annette, Jim is survived by two daughters, Vickie King (Philip) of Cincinnati, OH and Kim Bratt (Bill) of Hilton Head; four granddaughters, Stephanie Andersen, Heather King (Ben), Melissa King and Laurel Elliott (Taylor), as well as three day old, great granddaughter Emmalyn Elliott. Jim served as a pilot in the U.S. Air Force in the waning days of WWII, and had a successful career in sales, ultimately becoming an owner of a large pipe, fitting and valve distributor in the southeastern United States before retiring to Hilton Head in 1989. Jim is loved by his family and will be missed by all who knew him. A memorial service will be held at The Island Funeral Home Friday, June 28th at 1:00 pm.
