Robert Gray Obituary

Robert T. Gray, 69, of Hilton Head Island and husband of Janet Gray, died Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2012, at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. Bob was born September 23, 1942 to Lawrence and Catherine Gray. Bob was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY; he attended 12 years of catholic school and served 2 years active service in US army. He worked 30 years for The New York telephone company, currently Verizon North. Bob was an active member of Holy Family Church, a 4th Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus, a past officer of the Bishop Patrick Lynch Division, Beaufort Co. #1 Ancient Order of Hibernians and the American Legion. Bob also volunteered as an usher at Holy Family and helped with maintenance at the Hilton Head Welcome Center and Museum. Bob is survived by his wife Janet, brother William (Despina) Gray of Franklin, MA; sister-in-law Rita Gray of Thornwood, NY along with several cousins, nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, brother Lawrence Jr. and John Gray. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with a rosary service at 7 p.m. at The Island Funeral Home and Crematory. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Family Catholic Church, with burial at Six Oaks Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Holy Family Catholic Church Building Fund, 24 Pope Ave., Hilton Head Island, SC 29928 or to the Hilton Head Humane Association, P.O. Box 21790, Hilton Head Island, SC 29925. Condolences may be sent online to www.theislandfuneralhome.com.
