Catherine "Kay" McDonnellCatherine "Kay" McDonnell, loving wife of 52 years to Edward F. McDonnell and mother of Elizabeth (Beth) McDonnell of Hilton Head, sons Edward (Ted) McDonnell of Tiburon, California and Paul McDonnell of St. Thomas, USVI and grandmother to Patrick McDonnell of Hilton Head, died on February 21, 2012 at her home in Sea Pines with her family by her side after a long illness. Kay McDonnell, 77, was a full time resident of Hilton Head for the past ten years and a part time resident since the mid 1970's. Kay was born in Boston, MA to Albert and Catherine McNamara. She graduated from Mount St. Joseph's Academy and received a degree in Early Childhood Education from Curry College in Milton, MA, teaching Kindergarten for a brief period in Waltham, MA. Kay enjoyed a wonderful and interesting life traveling the world with her family, and residing full-time in Brazil and England for over 20 years. She was an avid golf and tennis player, however her greatest joy in life was motherhood and later in life, being Patrick's Nana. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to The Boys and Girls Club of Hilton Head, PO Box 2267, Hilton Head, SC 29925. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Holy Family Catholic Church, Hilton Head Island, on Saturday, February 25 at 10:30 am.
