Virginia Boulware Owen Virginia Boulware Owen sailed off into the sunset and passed over to heaven's shore on December 24, 2012, surrounded by her loving family and long-time devoted caregivers. She was preceded in death by her greatest love and husband of 51 years, Warren Herbert Owen. Virginia, also known as Ginger, will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She was born on August 6, 1927 in Washington, DC to Marcus Butler and Virginia Wright Boulware. She and Warren enjoyed many wonderful years with cherished friends in Charlotte, NC and at Camp Lee on Lake Norman before retiring to Hilton Head Island in 1993. Virginia loved being a mother and taught her children to enjoy the little things in life. She took them outside to splash in puddles after a storm and to lie on lawn chairs on summer nights to gaze at the stars. Combing the beach in search of sea treasures was a favorite past time that she shared with her children and grandchildren. She appreciated the beauty of God's creation with a special love for flowers, birds and bunnies. A kind and gentle woman, Virginia was gracious to everyone and was known for being a wonderful listener. She loved her family and looked forward to visits, treasuring every family gathering. One of Virginia's favorite songs was My Way by Frank Sinatra. She lived life her way to the very end and left all who knew her with wonderful memories. Virginia is survived by her loving daughters: Ginny Hardin and her husband Jeff of Fairmont, NC; Carol Alberto and her husband Jim of Hilton Head, SC; Suzy Gyles and her husband Leon of Wagram, NC; her sister Marcia Tenison of Nashville, TN; her four grandchildren: Ginger Hardin Friesen and her husband TJ, Holly Hardin Hutchenson and her husband Dwight, Zach Alberto, and Chase Gyles; and her three great-grandchildren: Bauer, Cash and Story Friesen. The family would also like to give special thanks to Virginia's beloved caregivers: Lenna Treasure, Darlene Shaw, Theah Spann, Anniel White and Adele Alden. She was preceded in death by sister Libba Jacobs. The memorial service will be at All Saints Episcopal Church at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 19, 2013. Her family asks that friends gather informally at her home following the service to celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that gifts be made to one of the following: Hospice Care of the Lowcountry PO Box 3827, Bluffton SC 29910 (www.hospicecarelc.org); All Saints Episcopal Church 3001 Meeting St, Hilton Head, SC 29926 (www.allsaints-hhi.org); or Wing Haven Gardens and Bird Sanctuary 248 Ridgewood Ave, Charlotte, NC 28209 (www.winghavengardens.com).
