Susan Carol Anderson Susan Carol Anderson, 71, of Philadelphia, died on Sunday January 13, 2013 at the VNA Hospice of Philadelphia. Susan was born on December 26, 1941, the daughter of the late Kenneth and Betty (Sutfin) Anderson of Elmira, NY. She graduated from Elmira Free Academy in 1960, Wells College with a BA in History, Cum Laude, in 1964, Cornell University in 1966 with a MA in Teaching and attended Temple University studying Journalism. She worked for 29 years in communications and public relations at the American College of Physicians, Metropolitan Hospital in marketing, the American Cancer Society in public relations, and director of the Marconi Senior Citizens Center, all in the Philadelphia area. Susan was a member of Philadelphia Girls' Rowing Club, participated in renovation of the facility and grant writing for funding. She was a competitive rower, member of US Rowing Association, a fully licensed referee of National Association of Amateur Oarsmen a member F.I.S.A. 1979-1985, and the United States Rowing Association, officiating in local, national and international regattas. She opened her home to women rowers training in Philadelphia. Susan was committed to the advancement for a voice for women. She helped further the fight against Pancreatic Cancer through her participation in a clinical trial at the National Institute of Health on delivery methods of medications directly to the tumor. She was an excellent writer and story teller, keeping one's attention and entertained during the telling of many tales. She had a talent of keeping friendships over many years from high school, college and rowing. She is survived by her brother Ken (Nancy) Anderson of Wooster, OH, Sister Libby (Paul Nurnberg) Anderson of Beaufort, SC, Nieces: Julie (Dan) Cochran of Normal, IL and Kate (Doug) Billy of Westerville, OH.
