James Pharr Obituary
MARIETTA – James C. ""Jimmy"" Pharr, 79, passed away Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Booneville. He was born Sept. 27, 1934, to Henry Lee and Opal Brown Pharr. He was the founder and operator of James C. Pharr Sawmill since 1978. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of Little Creek Baptist Church where he was a Sunday school teacher and song leader. He was the first recipient of the Prentiss County Goodfellows Award and the first recipient of the Moose Mansil Award for Economic Development in Prentiss County. He served in city government for 20 years, 12 as mayor of Marietta, an early member of Marietta Lions Club, Advisory Board member of Farmers and Merchants Bank, and a longtime member and past president of the Prentiss County Development Association.
Services will be 3 p.m. today, Feb. 16, at McMillan Funeral Home with Bro. Terry Paul Graham, Bro. Ray Bennett and Bro. H.L. Pharr officiating. Burial will be in the Zion Rest Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Nell Jones Pharr; two daughters, Janet Pounds of Marietta and Norma (Jim) Foster of Booneville; one son, Craig (Lisa) Pharr of Marietta; two sisters, Sara Pharr Wilkerson and Jane Pharr Fagan, both of Jacksonville, Fla.; one brother, Bro. H.L. Pharr of Thomasville, Ga.; six grandchildren, Tori (Cassidy) Jumper, David ""Bubba"" (Diana) Pounds, Brandon Lee (Maria) Foster, Chasity Foster, Matthew Craig Pharr (fiance, Susie Baker) and Cristin Lee Pharr; and two great-grandchildren, Glen Ashton Jumper and Myla Alyse Foster.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Charles Stanley Pharr; and a son-in-law, Glen Pounds.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons and nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be present and former associates of James C. Pharr Sawmill.
Visitation will be until service time today at McMillan Funeral Home.
