Emma Chavez Obituary

Emma Sedano Chavez

"A noble woman speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue. Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: 'Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all."' Proverbs 31:26-29. Emma Chavez, wife, mother, grandmother and friend, was welcomed into the arms of the Lord on February 2, 2013, after bravely enduring Lou Gehrig's disease. She was born Emma Sedano in San Pedro, California on February 17, 1930, one of the eldest of eleven siblings whom she lovingly supported in all ways. Emma married the love of her life Herverto ("Al") Chavez on December 2, 1950. She was the sparkle in his eyes, and in rapid succession they gave life and love to Albert, James, and twins Kathryn and Ronald. They reconstructed a beautiful house in Long Beach, where Emma was the gracious hostess for birthdays, holidays and whatever occasion arose. She was den mother, little league mother, transporter and booster for sports activities and school events. Emma and Al moved to Oceanside in 1993, where she continued to entertain and prepare meals for family and friends old and new. Emma was pleased that that her cooking made you content and happy. She and Al became active parishioners of Mission San Luis Rey. Emma loved the parish community; she was a mission docent and volunteered in church activities. Emma and Al demonstrated that dancing is a manifestation of love. They warmly and gracefully moved across the dance floor. By trains, planes, ships and automobiles they thrilled in traveling throughout the states, Mexico, South America, Europe, Asia, the Middle East and the Caribbean. Emma shared her joy, experiences and broadened perspectives. Her wisdom and instructions by example will be remembered by her adoring husband, children, grandchildren, family and friends: Albert, his wife Sheila and daughter Emily; Jim, his wife Mary and children James Jr. and fiancé Ambar, Nicole and fiancé Juan, Christina and Felix; Kathy, her husband Michael Drolet and children Rachel and Benjamin; Ron and his wife Tina; brothers and sisters Thomas Sedano, Ernie Sedano and his wife Mary, Ofelia and her husband David Lopez, Virginia and her husband Gonzalo Pereira, Ramona Gomez, Frank Gomez and his wife Mary, and many, many more family and friends. A mass in celebration of Emma's life will be held at Mission San Luis Rey at 11:00 a.m. on February 16, 2013. Memorial donations may be made to San Diego Hospice or Mission San Luis Rey. Dearest Al and cousin's,
Our deepest sympathy and prayer's are with you and all my cousin's during this most difficult time...I remember Emma as a very pretty, up-lifting lady with a heart warming smile. She was a special cousin and I so enjoyed seeing her at family functions. Growing up my cousin's, Emma, Esther and Cuca were the 'jolly three', I truly laughed being around them. May cousin Emma rest in peace. Thank you for being so sweet to me! God Bless with Love,
cousin's Gloria & David xoxo
