Branin, Gloria "Donna" - Ontario
Gloria "Donna" Branin 1925-2016 Longtime resident of La Verne and Pomona, Donna Branin passed away peacefully in her home after battling Leukemia, on Sunday, May 29, 2016. She was 90 years old. She was born on November 9, 1925 and raised in Santa Monica, California. The oldest of three children, she spent countless hours working by her father's side. Her father built a cart for her to sell peanuts and popcorn on the weekends with her sister Marian and brother Bud. She graduated from University High (UNIHI) in 1944. In 1943, she married Earl Branin and had five children. While Earl was in the service, she courageously traveled to Germany alone with her children and set up a home. Earl was transferred back to Los Angeles in 1957. Donna spent the next 30 years in Pomona and worked two jobs to support her five children. She worked for General Dynamics as a sauderer during the day, and Richman's catering in the evenings. She was with General Dynamics for thirty years and finally retired in 1991 to care for her daughter who suffered with MS. She joyfully was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church for over fifty years. Never a stranger to anyone, Donna opened her heart and home throughout the years providing love, inspiration and true hospitality. She was an amazing mother and grandmother; beloved by her family and friends. Donna loved traveling to Idaho to visit her sons, grandsons, and great granddaughter. At 90 years old, she was full of life; driving, attending church service, heading up various committees and enjoying her family and friends. "My grandmother was a true blessing whose positivity and zest for life inspired us every day," said granddaughter, Jennifer Layne. She is survived by her daughter Debbie Lightfoot; her grandchildren, Rachel Konop, Josh Branin, Jennifer Layne, Joe Lightfoot, Ryan, Casey and Cody Branin; and great grandchildren Gavin and Landon Konop, and Keeli Branin and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews and friends. Donna was preceded in death by sons; Bob Branin and Hal Branin, and daughters; Donna Lawton and Linda Branin. Donna's memorial service will take place at 11:00 am on Monday, June 27, 2016 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 610 N. San Antonio Avenue, Pomona 91767.
