Carol Radtke

July 24, 1918 – February 26, 2013

Born Carol Florence Horsley in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Wilbur and Hazel Horsley. Her 2 sisters, Edith and Helen preceded her in death. She is survived by her 3 daughters: Dianne Porter Stark, Wendy Porter Krajeski, and Susan Porter Cowart.

Carol was a cafeteria manager at Apperson School, Mt. Gleason, and Verdugo Hills High. Her career in food services spanned a period of 20 years. She retired in 1975.

Carol married Thomas Arthur Porter in 1939. They met at Christian Endeavor and were married at a Congregational church pastured by Tom's father, Dr. Arthur Porter. Tom and Carol moved to Sunland about 1944. They lived on McVine. Carol was a housewife/homemaker - the "go-to person" for neighborhood kids or adults - and Tom a landscape gardener. In 1956 they moved to Jardine Avenue in Sunland. Tom passed away in 1958; Dianne was 16, Wendy 14, and Susan 9. Thank the Lord Carol had a good job. She continued working, putting her girls through high school at Verdugo Hills.

In 1963 Carol married Ken Radtke, who gave Dianne and Susan away in marriage. He died in 1993. She continued living in the same Jardine house until her peaceful death (home going).

Carol is survived by three daughters, eight grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. Her well-lived life is a legacy of love, joy and strength. Those priceless gifts she gave us are ours to treasure forever. She will be so greatly missed.
