GOERL, Helen R.
Helen Goerl died peacefully in her Alhambra, CA home on December 3, 2012, at the age of 95, with loved ones at her side. She is survived by two sisters, Marieta Ermatinger of Petaluma, CA and Hazel Moore of Woodburn, OR, and six nieces and nephews.
Helen was born on November 25, 1917, to Mabel Tinsley and Albert Goerl on a farm in Kansas and grew up in the town of Sterling. After moving to Southern California in 1943, she worked as a medical secretary, x-ray technician, and for thirty years as an LA County Superior Court clerk.
Helen was an active member of the Calvary Presbyterian Church in South Pasadena, and the Alhambra branch of PEO.
In addition to her many philanthropic and volunteer activities, Helen's great passions were singing, playing the piano, and making her own fancifully named chocolates and coffee liqueur, all of which she gave away freely. Of the latter, she once said in an interview for an online food magazine, "When I give it for Christmas, I suggest that people drink it at home. They should have their bed ready. I recommend that."
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 29, 2012, at Calvary Presbyterian Church, 1050 Fremont Ave., South Pasadena, CA 91030. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Choir Support Fund at Calvary Presbyterian Church or other charity.
