Dorothy Mae Newman
Passed away peacefully on October 30, 2013.
She was born on February 13, 1924 in Douglass, Kansas to Lewis Yarger and Ina Cox.
Her family moved to Oklahoma later that year where she graduated from Bearden High School in 1941 as the class valedictorian.
During World War II, she met the love of her life Nathan Newman in Fort Worth, Texas, and they married in September 1944. They enjoyed 67 years together until his passing in 2012.
In 1953, they moved to southern California where they raised their three children. She was active in Pomona Valley Twins Club, PTA, TOPS, and her church. She was an avid Los Angeles Dodgers fan and enjoyed doing the Daily Bulletin's crossword puzzle. Dorothy and Nathan both had a deep sense of family where they enjoyed family dinners, camping, and fishing.
She is survived by her children Lynda (Rush) Andrews, Glynda (Ken) Stickles, and David Newman along with her grandchildren Kimberly (Don) Allen, Kelli Stickles (Chris), David Griffin, Stephen (Jessica) Newman, Jeffrey Newman (Shelley), and Dena Newman as well as 10 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her twin sister Ruth Hatley of Texas.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 7, 11:30 a.m. at Todd Memorial Chapel, 570 North Garey Ave., Pomona, CA 91767. Burial at Riverside National Cemetery.
