Gerald (Stew McGoo) Steward Sanford
Passed away October 1, 2013 at the age of 83. He was born June 28, 1930 in Greeley, Colorado. Raised in Casper, Wyoming until the age of 9. Graduated from Long Beach Poly High School in 1949. Resident of Torrance for 60 years. His high school sweetheart and wife Betty, married for 56 years preceded his passing in 2006. Stew is survived by his children Linda Silva (Gregory), Kenny Sanford (Karen), Jessie Sanford, 7 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren. He was the Cool Uncle Stew to all his nieces and nephews and will be missed by close longtime friend Mary Keith. Retired from American Standard in 1980. He built a sled float for the city of Carson Sheriff's department and rode and dressed-up as Santa for several years. Stew brought much joy to the kids and adults. He was an active member of the California Carver's Guild and local wood carving clubs. Stew taught wood art at the Boys and Girls Club in Long Beach for 20 years. Stew was a musician union member of local 47 he played drums with several county western bands at several local honkytonk bars, weddings, bar mitzvahs and Military bases. Stew also taught ukulele at the Carson Community Center. His last recording was with the punk rock band The Adicts. He played the ukulele on the My Dear Old Friend song. Rock on POP!!!! Funeral services will be Saturday, October 12, 2013 1:00pm at Green Hills Memorial Park. (310)831-0311
