Gracie Ellen Abell, 86, passed away
peacefully March 14, 2012 at her Covina home.
Mrs. Abell was born Gracie Ellen Keith March 13, 1926 in Vanderbilt, Texas to
Melvyn D. Keith and Martha Jane (Hudson) Keith.
After graduating high school in Edna, Texas, she worked there for a while before moving to Houston, Texas where she met her future husband. After she and John Abell III of Cleveland were wed, they moved to California. After several moves, they eventually settled in West Covina where they raised four children.
While raising her family, Gracie was also very involved in the community. Helping her husband build a civil engineering firm, she also was active in PTA, West Covina Republican Club; San Gabriel Valley Women's Republican Club and enjoyed 30 years in various roles as a member the West Covina Women's Club.
Gracie's love of music led her to become an accomplished violinist, pianist and guitarist. Her love of dance lead her to operate dance studios focused on helping children learn new ways of expressing themselves while growing in confidence and self esteem.
Her hobbies included extensive collections of beautiful perfume bottles, frog artworks and gardening.
Mrs. Abell is survived by her three children, John Abell IV; Cathy (Abell) Connen; Ellen (Abell) Stubbs; and their spouses; sisters Faye (Keith) Ward and Melvyn (Keith) Louis, and brother Lewis Keith; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband John, son Douglas and grandson Justin.
Funeral services were conducted at Oakdale Mortuary on March 22, 2012.
