HAZEL MARIE THURMAN
Thurman, Hazel Marie, 69, beloved mother, wife and grandmother left us to be with her husband Garrett on Wednesday, February 26th, 2014 in the presence of her daughters and granddaughters in their Tennessee home. Born October 20th 1944 in Abilene, Texas, Marie was a loving mother/wife and as innocent as the butterflies she loved so much. With never a harsh word (unless you were being bad, in which case the harsh word was your full name in that Mom tone of voice) our home was the place to hang out and all the neighborhood kids loved to wrestle with her and try to take off her artificial leg. Marie lost her leg when she was 16 years old in an auto accident, but she never let that get in her way. She raised her four girls and when the time came that her husband could not work for health reasons, she went to work to support the family while still taking care of Dad and the girls. It was not always easy but she made it work. Family and friends always looked forward to Moms holiday dinners. We just knew we would have homemade mincemeat pie, jello salad, deviled eggs, potato salad and giblet gravy to go with the turkey and ham. Oh so gooood! She will be greatly missed but we know she is happy to be with Dad and we will see them both again someday.
Marie is predeceased by her husband Garrett Thurman, grandson Nathan H. Ramirez, and son in law Richard J. Sauber and survived by her four girls, Vickie Thurman-Rudiger (Mark) of Rancho Cucamonga, CA; Kim Vance (Jim) of Ashland City, TN; Janie Ramirez of Maryville, TN; Kathy Sauber of Maryville, TN and her grandchildren Tony Battaglia, Jenny Sauber, Bryiana Martin and Haley Sauber, Rachel Ramirez, Anna Ramirez, Garrett and Dillon Vance and great grandchildren Crystal, Kaylee, and Tamera. The surviving siblings are Jackie Breeden, Connie Camp, Roger Breeden, and Brenda Donaldson.
Services will be held at 4:00 PM on Friday, March 7th at Sherwood Chapel and Memorial Gardens 3176 Airport Highway Alcoa, TN 37701 with Pastor Tom Hatley officiating.
