The Guest Book is expired.
Our mother Pat Payne ended the last chapter of her life on November 9, 2012. She was born in Farnham, Province of Quebec, Canada on November 2, 1917. Pat enjoyed a full and satisfying life focused primarily on her family. Pat emigrated from Canada on February 7, 1931. She lived with her parents, Paul & Judy Murphy, in San Francisco and Fresno before settling into her life in Long Beach, which would be her home until 2006. After graduating from St. Anthony's High School in 1936, Pat attended the Nursing Program at Mercy Hospital in San Diego and, after her retirement, California State University at Long Beach majoring in Art. On February 6, 1943 Pat married the love of her life; Robert "Bob" Charles Payne. She also realized a true second set of family in Bob's parents, Glenn and Mary Payne. Mary helped Pat develop one of her life's passions by passing on culinary skills that would serve her growing family, friends and neighbors. When time allowed, which was not too often with a large family, Pat also pursued her love of Art, Music and Literature. Her favorite outdoor activity was tending to her rose garden, which provided hours of peace and accomplishment. Most of Pat's life was consumed by the family of six children she had planned with Bob from the start of their marriage. Their children all survive Pat: Kathleen Marie Eger, Michael Dennis Payne, Margaret Eileen George, Terrence Finian Payne, Maureen Elizabeth Ruszkowski and Patrick Kevin Payne. Pat's extended family includes her sons and daughters-in-law; 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. During the last 6 years of her life, Pat resided at Kirkwood Orange Assisted Living in Orange, California. She enjoyed wonderful care and the ability to participate in her favorite activities; with a modicum of very welcome quiet after years of noisy and joyful parenting. Pat's Rosary and Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Matthew's Church, 672 Temple Avenue, on November 15, 2012 beginning at 10 am. A grave-side service will follow immediately after at All Souls Cemetery, 4400 Cherry Avenue; both in Long Beach, California. Please sign the guest book at www.presstelegram.com/obituaries.
