Pete Beltran Obituary

PETE Z. BELTRAN

Age 73, of Simi Valley, died April 6 in Panorama City. Son of Juana and Pedro Beltran, Pete graduated from San Fernando High and married Margie Beltran (nee Lopez) in 1958; they divorced in 1970. He worked at the GM Van Nuys auto plant for 30 years, serving as president of United Auto Workers Local 645 from 1978 to 1987. As a key organizer of the Campaign to Keep GM Van Nuys Open (supported by Jesse Jackson, Cesar Chavez, Ed Asner and others), Pete emerged as a major figure in So. Cal. labor politics. After retiring in 1988, he became a gifted ceramicist.

He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Bonnie Porter Beltran; his children, Cristina Beltran of New York and David Stanley of Los Angeles; his five brothers and sisters, Antonio Beltran, Nicholas Beltran, Ascencion Beltran, Margaret Beltran, and Bea Embrey; and his many cousins, nieces, and nephews. His courage, intelligence, charisma, warmth, dignity, and love of family will be greatly missed.

Funeral service at 10:30am Monday, April 15, at Santa Rosa Catholic Church, 668 S. Workman St., San Fernando. Rosary following at 4:00pm at Church of Our Heritage, Forest Lawn Covina Hills.
