RITA ANN KEARNEY
Rita passed away peacefully at home on October 3, 2013 surrounded by her family and friends.
She was born on February 18, 1923 in Lawrence, MA to Dennis and Ruth Dwan. She came from a very close and loving family of seven. She moved to Long Beach in 1946 to marry John Kearney and they were married for 63 years until his passing in 2009. Rita was a devoted mother to her six children, always putting her family before anything in her life.
Rita was known as the cool mom of the neighborhood and her home was always open to everyone. She could always find room for one more, whether it be family, friends or just someone in need. She was a beautiful seamstress and enjoyed making clothes for her children and grandchildren. She will forever be remembered by all who knew her as being kind and caring. She touched many people In her long life.
Rita is survived by her six children: John (Margaret), Dennis, Karen (Sven) Henriksen, Kristine (Nick) Tonsich, Patrick and Erin; nine grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The family would like to give special thanks to Stacy Bartlett for her devotion to Mom. We know Mom considered her one of her daughters. We would also like to thank Rebecca and those who helped care for Mom in her final weeks.
Mass to celebrate Rita's life will be held on Thursday, October 10th at 9:00 a.m at Our Lady of Refuge Church.
