Virginia Claire (Pixley, Banta) McAnulty, 89, peacefully passed on May 28, 2013, surrounded by her family after a lengthy illness. Virginia, known to her friends and family as "Ginny," was born March 20, 1924. She was the daughter of Nelson Pixley, Sr. and Lillian (Parent) Pixley. Ginny lived her entire life in Pasadena and she loved to share stories about Pasadena's history with her family.
She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 40 years, John [Jack] McAnulty, Sr., first husband, Milton Banta, and brother Nelson Pixley, Jr.
Ginny is survived by her brother Alden Pixley and sister
Susan Pixley, and her nine children, Michael (Banta) Bania, Janice Weaver, Sue (McAnulty) Foxman, Christopher Banta, Jacqueline (McAnulty) Harrington, Denise Banta, Linda (McAnulty) Denker, John McAnulty Jr., and Jessie (McAnulty) Zaud, in addition to 16 grand children and 4 great-grand children.
Ginny had a busy and productive life and gave to others in so many ways. She was a dedicated mother, wife, and friend. She volunteered as a San Rafael Elementary School "Mom" helping with the annual San Rafael carnival. She was a gifted technical illustrator who worked at Lockheed and then later at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena. On a personal note, Ginny loved trying new recipes and cooking great and entertaining meals for her large family. She and Jack were avid square dancers in the Spellbinders Club of South Pasadena. Ginny had a life-long passion for gardening and home improvement projects. She especially loved growing azaleas and visited Nuccio's, a local azalea nursery, as often as she could. Ginny's spirit and resolve will be greatly missed.
A private service will be held by the Neptune Society where her ashes will be laid to rest at sea.
