Ardys Marie Sider
Of Upland, CA was born in Hamlin, Kansas on October 21, 1926. Ardys was the daughter of Jacob & Ella (Heise) Charles. She was called to her eternal home on 7/5/2014.
The Charles family lived on a farm in Kansas. Jacob pastored the country church for 35 years.
Ardys followed several siblings to Upland Academy in 1943. She worked as an aide at San Antonio Community Hospital which led to her completing 2 years at Upland College. Then three years as a nursing student at Huntington Memorial in Pasadena proved to be a defining period in her life as she made lifelong friends, graduating in 1950. She was a RN at Huntington Hospital until 1951 when Dr. James Alderfer asked her to join him as his office nurse where she worked until his retirement.
In 1953 Ardys met a young teacher at Niagara Christian College in Ontario, Canada at a church conference. A romance began and then grew through letter writing. Harold came to visit several times over the next 2 years leading to their marriage on June 16, 1955.
After Dr Alderfer retired, Ardys was Director of Pitzer Lodge at Pilgrim Place in Claremont. She also volunteered at San Antonio Hospital from 1992 to 2010.
She is survived by brother Stan, children Bruce and Donna and grandchildren Jenna, Daniela and Jordan.
