Obituary Condolences

Finance for Pomona, Passes Robert Arthur Otto, age 87, resident of Pomona, CA for 55 years, passed away January 15, 2010 at Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center. Robert was born October 12, 1922 in Burbank, CA, son of August and Mary Otto, who had three children: Irene, who died at 82 in 1995; Robert; and George, who died at 85 three days before Robert, on January 12, 2010. A lifelong member of the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod, Robert was for the last three decades a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Ontario, CA. He enlisted in the Navy during WWII, serving in the Solomon Islands in the South Pacific and later in the Aleutian Islands. After the war he went to UCLA on the G.I. Bill, graduating with a B.A., and later attended Claremont Graduate School (now Claremont Graduate University). He wo rked for the City of Pomona for 32 years, two decades of which as Director of Finance. He loved classical music and nature, and over the course of his life visited many of the National Parks, first with his brother George and later with his family. Robert is survived by his wife, Helen Otto; son James and daughter-in-law Marie Otto of Alta Loma; and grand-daughter Courtney Chilstrom of Burbank. Services will be held at Montecito Memorial Park, 3520 East Washington St., Colton, (909) 825-3024: visitati on will be Sunday, January 31, from noon to 4 p.m.; funeral will be Monday, February 1, at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers the family suggest making a donation to the LCMS World Mission.
