Fred Contreras
A much loved man

Frederic Fernando Contreras Jr. has passed after a valiant ten year struggle with Parkinson's Disease. Fred was employed by the Covina-Valley Unified School District at Rowland Ave Elementary School, Traweek Junior High School, Northview High School, and Covina High School., where he taught English and was the Varsity basketball coach. He finished his career working for the Chaffey Joint Union High School District as principal of Rancho Cucamonga High School. He loved his life's work and he made a difference.

Fred was predeceased by his brother James. Fred is survived by his wife of forty-three years, Kathryn, his daughter Mary Frances Contreras-Sandell, her husband Clayton Sandell, and their daughter Kathryn, his son Robb Contreras and his wife Ann, and his son Matthew Contreras. He is also survived by his nephew Marc Moya, his son Brandon, his niece Kimberly Contreras and her children: Adrianna, Austin, and Payson; his sister-in-law Paula Strom, her son John and daughter Suzanne; his brother-in-law Dan (Joe) Shaffer who took care of Fred in his last year; and many loving cousins and friends.

Fred and Kathryn would like to extend their special thanks to the visiting nurses of Kaiser Permenente Hospice. They were extraordinarily fine home care providers with whom he became very attached. They made his final wish possible, to live at home until he passed.

He was a scholar, a teacher, and a much loved man by his family, friends, and his many students.
