Louis J. Valizan Obituary
Louis J. Valizan
Louis John Valizan passed away on October 12, 2012 in Las Vegas, NV after a brief illness. He was born March 30, 1934 to Lillian and Louis Valizan in Chino, California. Louis attended Chino High School where he took an interest in playing the trumpet and continued to perform after he graduated in 1951. His career as a professional musician began immediately after graduation when he toured internationally with the Perez Prado Orchestra. Louis became a world-renowned trumpet player who was highly respected by his peers. Louis had an innovative playing style that influenced generations of trumpet players. He was a pioneer as a lead player by his incredible ability to play in the highest register of the trumpet. He was featured on numerous recordings and appeared on television with many famous artists. In 1962, Louis moved to Las Vegas where he became a featured artist for the Esquivel! show that ran for many years on the Vegas strip. A gifted musical copyist, Louis transcribed musical scores by hand for many orchestras and ensembles performing in Vegas. He was a jazz aficionado as well as a great jazz trumpeter in his own right. He enjoyed performing in small ensembles and equally enjoyed listening to his vast jazz album collection. More than anything else, Louis loved and enjoyed his family greatly. As a devoted husband to his wife Gloria for 59 years, he was dedicated to his children and was a very big part of the lives of his grandchildren. His sense of humor and quick wit were always present, no matter the circumstances. Louis is survived by his wife Gloria, daughters Belinda Acosta, Kathy Guerrero, and Cynthia Ruiz, a son Louis Jr.; eleven grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, all of Las Vegas; his sister, Gloria Valdez of Las Vegas and his brother, Fernando Valizan of Pomona, CA. A private memorial service was held.
