Richard William Brock, Sr.
Was born on April 2, 1925 in Harlan, Kentucky and went to the Lord on November 12, 2012, surrounded by his loving family. He spent his childhood in Tucson, Arizona. He enlisted in the Navy during
World War II
and was chosen to play in the Navy band. He asked to transfer to active combat and was a member of the World War II Beach Masters and was one of the first to land on Iwo Jima. He wore his World War II veteran's cap with great pride. On countless occasions, he would be stopped and congratulated for his service to our country.
After leaving the service, he returned to Tucson where he ran his own heating and air conditioning company. After selling his business, he was employed as an engineer by Philco Ford Electronics Communications Division. He traveled all over the world installing radar sites and missile tracking stations.
After retiring from Philco Ford, he worked for Sunkist Growers, Freightliner Corporation, General Electric Flat Iron Plant and ITT as Plant and Safety engineer.
He loved music and played the clarinet and saxophone. He also loved his dogs, especially his dachshund babies.
In 1948, he married Catherine Mancuso and they were happily married for 64 years. He is survived by his wife and four children, daughters Janet Ryan, Kathleen Webster, Candice Brock and son Richard William Brock Jr. (Cherry). He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Patrick (Michelle), Jennifer and Catherine Ryan, David and Heather Webster, Brianne Webster McKnight (Johnny), and Christopher (Shalani) and Brock Chadsey, Zan Mojica, two great-grandchildren, Colin and Sydney Ryan, his brother Robert Brock and his loving dog Scooby.
Viewing will held Tuesday November 20, 2012 from 6:30PM to 7:30PM at Graystone Chapel, 9244 19th St. in Alta Loma. Funeral Mass will be offered Wednesday, 10AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 877 N. Campus Ave. in Upland. Military Honors will be held Wednesday, 12:45PM at Riverside National Cemetery staging area #4.
Lada's Cucamonga Mortuary is entrusted with arrangements.
