Ada Alice Cook Obituary
Ada Alice Cook
Passed away on Monday, November 26th at the age of 86. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 49 years, Lt. Col. Daniel E. Cook of Redlands, who passed away in 1996, and her oldest son, Daniel Cook, of San Antonio, Texas, who passed away in 2011. Ada is survived by her daughter Rena Chapman of Redlands; son Joseph Cook of Calimesa; son James Cook of Katy, Texas, and by their spouses, Rena's husband Steven Chapman of Redlands and James' wife Catherine Cook of Katy, Texas. Ada is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Born in Bellingham, Washington on January 23, 1926 to Fred and Rena Zylstra, Ada spent most of her early life in the Puget Sound area. She and Dan Cook attended high school together on Whidbey Island and they married on August 22, 1947. Following World War II they attended Washington State University together where Dan pursued Officer Candidate School and a career in the United States Air Force. Ada enjoyed her life as the wife of an Air Force officer, touring many different states and countries throughout the world and raising four children. She loved to organize and host events and wherever Dan and the family were stationed, was always active in the Officers Wives Club. Most notable of their many tours was Houston, Texas. It was there in the early 1970's when Ada took up the sport of golf. Upon Dan's retirement in 1977, they moved to Redlands. During the 1990's Ada served as president of the Women's Club at Redlands Country Club. She later became an active member of the Redlands Breakfast Club. She loved entertaining family, especially during holidays. She enjoyed arts and crafts and was an outstanding seamstress. Throughout her 86 years Ada was loved by everyone that came to know her personally. She was kind, gracious, charming, elegant and fun-loving, and to the chagrin of her sons, her son-in-law and all her grandsons, she could outplay them regularly at golf. A visitation for family and friends will be held for Ada on Tuesday, December 4th from 10am until 12 noon at Cortner's Chapel in Redlands, and she will be interred that afternoon alongside her husband Dan following a 1:30pm service at Riverside National Cemetery.
