SALES, William Edward

William Edward (Ed) Sales passed away on Thursday, November 29, 2012. Ed was born on July 12, 1915, on his grandparents' ranch in Hynes, California to Thomas Roscoe and Venna Mae Sales. He grew up in Lake County and Upland, CA, where his father farmed and managed orange groves. Ed graduated from Chaffey High School and Chaffey Junior College in Upland and transferred to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, where he earned a bachelor's degree in air conditioning and electrical engineering in 1936 when air conditioning was a brand new field. Ed married Mary Jane Vanell in 1941. After serving in the Army they settled in Pasadena where, in 1948, they built the home where they they raised their family and lived until their deaths. Ed opened his own business, O'Kane & Sales Heating & Air Conditioning, in Pasadena in 1956, and both he and Mary worked there until they closed the business in the 1990s. Ed was very active in Pasadena First United Methodist Church. East Pasadena Lions Club, and served on the board of the San Gabriel Valley Learning Center. He is survived by his sister, Ida Jane Stadler, of Colorado Springs; daughter Patricia Zeider (Steve) and grandson Mitchel; son Thom (Rebecca) and grandson Evan (Melisha); and daughter Nancy Boyd (Jim) and granddaughters Marlena, Samantha, and Marissa of Lake Tapps, Washington. Also surviving are extended family members Jerry Stranahan (Beth) & grandson Alec of South Burlington, VT; Jim Stranahan of Davis, CA; and David Stranahan (Lai Ching) and grandsons Kyle, Andrew, and Matthew of San Bruno, CA. We would like to express our great appreciation to our dad's wonderful caregiver, Jessica Rivera. A memorial service will be held in the chapel at Pasadena First United Methodist Church, 500 E. Colorado Blvd., on Saturday, December 8, at 1:30 p.m. Contributions may be made to the Pasadena Methodist Foundation for Camp Sky Meadows at the same address.
