Forrest Richard Besocke

Obituary Condolences

BESOCKE, Forrest Richard

Forrest Richard Besocke, our beloved father, grandfather, and brother passed away peacefully on January 22, 2013.

He was born on October 11, 1929 in Chicago, IL, and moved to California in 1937. He graduated from Monrovia-Arcadia-Duarte High School and the University of Southern California. Not only did he enliven many Sigma Phi Epsilon events with his musical skills, he was an active member of the fraternity alumni association and continued to meet with his Sig Ep brothers for more than 50 years.

Forrest enjoyed a successful career in electronics engineering sales and was active in the Pasadena Junior Chamber and the Crown City Ski Club. While canvassing the neighborhood for the Pasadena Young Republicans, Forrest knocked on the door of one Susan Crapser, quickly winning her heart and her vote. They were married in 1967 and shared a home in Arcadia, CA for 41 years.

In addition to raising four Eagle Scouts of his own, Forrest was a Scoutmaster for Boy Scouts of America Troop 125 and received the Silver Beaver Award for his service in 2001. Through scouting, he was able to share his lifelong love of the outdoors, hunting, camping, and hiking. Throughout his life he enjoyed many hobbies, especially the San Gabriel Valley Amateur Radio Club, playing guitar and banjo, hiking in the San Gabriel Mountains, and photography.

He had a great sense of humor and an optimistic outlook on life that made his family and friends want to be around him. He is survived by sons Richard (Portia), Charles (Kate), Walter, and Daniel; his two grandchildren, Conrad and Matthew; and his loving sister Phyllis Winnaman, with whom he remained close his entire life.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to:
