89, died on January 28th in Yucaipa. Born in Wellesville, Ohio, Dorothy moved with her family to California as a young child, residing first in San Bernardino then Yucaipa. Dorothy attended local schools, including Redlands High School where she met her future husband. At the time of her passing, they had been married for 69 years. She was a graduate of San Bernardino High School. Dorothy and Al lived in Redlands until 1975, when they moved to Yucaipa. During the 1950's and early 1960's, in addition to raising her family, Dorothy worked at the family business, Newell Nursery located on Redlands Boulevard in Redlands. In the mid-1960's Dorothy went to work at Redlands Senior High School as a secretary. After retiring from Redlands High School in 1980, she once again worked at the Redlands branch of the family nursery business. Dorothy enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking, reading and traveling. She was a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church in Redlands. Dorothy is survived by her husband - Al Newell; two daughters - Kelley Newell of Poppet's Flat, CA and Melody Funk of Redlands; three grandchildren - Cassandra Funk of McKinleyville, CA, Aaron Funk of Riverside, CA and Jessica Funk of Yucaipa, CA; five great-grandchildren; two sisters - Catherine Weiser of Highland, CA and Sally Hall of Corona, CA; and many nieces and nephews. All are welcome to attend a Memorial Service, scheduled for Saturday, February 23rd at 10:30 AM at the First United Methodist Church, 1 E. Olive Avenue, Redlands, CA. Following the service, appetizers will be served. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the
