Rae Corinne Crutchfield

June 25, 1929 - March 16, 2013

Mother, Wife, Grandma, Auntie and lifelong working woman, Rae passed peacefully from this world due to natural causes on Saturday, March 16. Born in Youngstown, Ohio, Rae moved to Southern California as a young girl. Shortly after high school and while working as a flight attendant she met and married John Robert Crutchfield in 1951. Rae and John lived virtually their entire married life at the famous "Crutchfield House" in Long Beach, the site of seemingly endless and entertaining social gatherings, until John's passing in 1991. During those 40 years, incredibly close and heartfelt relationships were established and nurtured with numerous friends in the Long Beach area and beyond. In 1963 Rae and John took a second honeymoon to Waikiki where they met and became immediate friends with many of the local Beach Boys and their friends around the island. This was the beginning of true second life which included a new second family of close Hawaiian friends, annual trips to Hawaii for the next several years, multiple annual Hawaiian visitors and "boarders" at the "Crutchfield House" and lifetime of immersion and adoption of Hawaiian "Ohana". Rae was employed her entire life as a travel agent and, most recently, at the Long Beach Convention Center, until her retirement in her early 70's. She continued to live in the "Crutchfield House" until her death. Rae is survived by son, John Crutchfield (Kelly); daughter Kimberly Crutchfield-Shea; (Billy); grandsons, Troy Linehan Crutchfield and Noah Po'okela Shea; nephew, Larry Cruchfield; great nieces, Dana McAdam (and son Otis) and Darcy Ewing (daughter Tate and son, Cole) and great nephew, Darrin Vanatta. Her surviving friends are legiion and too numerous to mention. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.

There will be a "Remembrance Gathering" on Sunday, May 12, 2013 at 4:00pm to celebrate and reminisce about Rae's life. It will be held, appropriately enough, at the "Crutchfield House, 6431 Marita Street, Long Beach, California 90815. The family requests that no flowers or donations be tendered, instead, please take your mother or loved one out to dinner and raise a toast to Rae! It's what she would have wanted.
