Eleanor Hinds Base
We are the honored and blessed children of Eleanor Hinds Base, born into this world in Azusa, California on July 29, 1927 and departed it from San Dimas, California on November 21, 2013. Our Mom was a remarkable woman, probably best known in her community as an elementary school
for well over 40 years. Recognized throughout Pomona as a crusader for children, she was a magnet for the marginalized and downtrodden. She often repeated her adjectives - you are "loved, loved, loved" and are "beautiful, beautiful, beautiful." Her generosity to her kids, both the ones at school, and us at home was constant and sure - gifts, praise, encouragement, and faith. Many of the kids in her class grew up and had kids of their own in "Missus Base's" class to the second and third generations.
After retirement, Mom and Dad enjoyed many adventures together travelling to all 50 states. Mom backpacked in Alaska, rode a camel in Israel, white-water rafted the Colorado River, and at age 65 climbed Mt. Whitney. She and Dad (Richard D. Base) were married for 59 years until his passing on 7/31/2009. Mom was a member of Pomona First Baptist Church (PFB) which she attended for many years. We are especially grateful to Mom's "Lift Group" from PFB who helped support Mom emotionally and spiritually after Dad's passing. Mom's curiosity and passion for life are part of the legacy of faith and service that she leaves. We miss her beyond words, and are grateful and blessed to have her always as our mother.
