Edith Frances Eells
A life long resident of Pomona and LaVerne, died on Monday, February 3rd after a year long battle with leukemia. She was born on November 1, 1914 to Frank and Ethel Howard Eells. After graduating from Pomona College in 1935, Miss Eells spend her entire teaching career in the Pomona Unified School District. She was a life long member of Pilgrim Congregational Church where she held many leadership roles including Moderator, Trustee, Church School Superintendent and teacher, chair of the Earthquake retrofit fund drive and co chair of the Pilgrim Memorial Endowment fund and an active supporter of the Boys' and Girls' Brigades. The church was the center of her life and she was the longest and oldest surviving member. Edith Frances was also very involved in the Pomona Valley Hospital Auxiliary as member and president. She remained an active volunteer at the hospital gift shop until she could no longer drive. Edith Frances was a founding member of the Pomona Valley Hospital Foundation and served as a board member and member emeritus until her death. Miss Eells was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Howard. She is survived by her life long friend and companion Kathryn Curtis and many other close friends who were her family. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, February 12 at 2 p.m. at Pomona Valley Memorial Park at 502 E. Franklin, Pomona. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the Pilgrim Congregational Church Memorial endowment fund (600 North Garey Avenue, Pomona, CA 91767) or the Pomona Valley Hospital Auxiliary Sick Baby Fund (1798 N. Garey Avenue, Pomona, CA 91767). Todd Memorial Chapel, Pomona is in charge of arrangements.
