Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 19 at 9 a.m. at Frye Chapel and Mortuary in Brawley for Clinton Swanger, 78, of Spring Valley who passed away Monday, February 11 of natural causes. Graveside services will follow at Riverview Cemetery.
Clinton was born January 2, 1935 in Missouri Valley, Iowa. He was married to Jessie Swanger on September 14, 1957 in Calipatria and together they had 4 sons and 1 daughter. In his younger years, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving 14 months in Korea, and earning 3 service medals. Following his service, Clinton was employed as a railroad signalman maintainer with Southern Pacific Railroad for 41 years. Clinton was also a volunteer fireman with Calipatria Fire Department for the City of Calipatria, a scout master, and youth basketball coach. Clinton was a member of the Hornet Booster Club, American Legion, and Lions Club.
Clinton was preceded in death by his son, Clinton Swanger Jr.
Clinton is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jessie Swanger of Spring Valley; sons, Guy Swanger of Concord, CA, Gary Swanger of Surprise, AZ and Jeffrey Swanger of Spring Valley, CA; daughter, Judy Drake of Escondido, CA; brother, Stanley Swanger of Rockmart, GA; grandsons, Clinton Swanger III of Oceanside, CA, Joshua Swanger of Murrieta, CA, Mathew Swanger of Eugene, OR, and Cameron Rabell of Concord, CA; granddaughters, Hayley Swanger of Rancho San Diego, and Jasmine Swanger of Surprise, AZ; great-grandson, Alex Swanger; great-grand- daughter, Miranda Swanger of Oceanside, CA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
